Sweet and Sour Sauce (7 recipes)

Recipe #1

·   2/3 cup brown sugar

·   1/2 cup beef bouillon

·   1/2 cup vinegar

·   2 tablespoons cornstarch

·   2 teaspoons soy sauce

·   1 can (8 ounces) pineapple tidbits, drained

·   1/2 cup chopped green pepper

Combine all ingredients except pineapple and green pepper in a large deep skillet or Dutch oven and bring to a boil. Boil mixture until thickened. Stir in pineapple and green pepper and simmer for 30 minutes.


Recipe#2:

·   1-cup ketchup

·   1/3 cup lemon juice

·   1/3 cup grape jelly


Recipe#3:

·   1/2 cup orange marmalade

·   1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

·   1 1/2 tablespoons flour

·   2 tablespoons soy sauce

·   1-tablespoon lemon juice

·   1-cup ketchup

·   1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

·   2 tablespoons brown sugar

·   1/4 cup water


Recipe #4:

·    1 c. barbecue sauce

·    1 c. grape jelly

·    1 1/2 c. ketchup

·    1 1/2 c. water

·    3 tbsp. lemon juice or orange juice


Recipe #5:

·    1 cup chicken bouillon

·    3 large green peppers, diced

·    1/2 large can pineapple chunks

·    1/2 cup Triple Sec or Cointreau (or orange juice)

·    2 tablespoons cornstarch

·    2 tablespoons soy sauce

·    1/2 cup vinegar

·    1/2 cup pineapple juice

·    1/3 cup sugar

·    1/2 teaspoon salt

·    freshly ground black pepper

Add bouillon, diced green pepper, and pineapple chunks to a skillet. Cover and cook on medium heat for 10 minutes. Combine remaining ingredients and add to skillet, stirring constantly until mixture comes to a boil, then simmer until thickened.


Recipe #6:

·    1 can (20 ounces) pineapple chunks (drained and reserve juice)

·    1/3 cup water

·    3 tablespoons vinegar

·    1-tablespoon soy sauce

·    1/2 cup packed brown sugar

·    3 tablespoons cornstarch

·    1 large green pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces

Drain pineapple, reserving juice. Set pineapple aside. Add water to juice if needed to measure 1 cup; pour into a large skillet. Add 1/3 cup water, vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar and cornstarch; stir until smooth. Cook over medium heat until thick, stirring constantly. Add the pineapple and green pepper. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes or until heated through.


Recipe #7:

·    3/4 cup reduced sugar catsup

·    1/3 cup white vinegar

·    1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

·    3 tablespoons sugar (or Splenda)

·    2 tsp. dry mustard

·    1 tsp. salt

·    1/4 tsp. ground black pepper

Add all ingredients to a skillet and bring to a boil until heated through.
